Rabbit Placemat and Coaster

A gift for you! It's time to free this cute rabbit, placemat and coaster, one of the first patterns I made, perfect for Easter and to decorate your table!

You need two fabrics of different colors. Open and print the PDF pattern.

When you print the pattern, to ensure it’s printed in the correct scale, test the square, it should be 1" x 1" (2,5 x 2,5 cm). The three shapes required to make the rabbit placemat are spread over multiple sheets. Join the prints following the instructions.

COASTER

Trace one coaster pattern on the wrong side of each fabric. Cut out the pieces with a 1/4" (6 mm) seam allowance, as shown by the dotted line in the pattern.

Overlap and pin the two pieces right sides together. Sew all round the coaster at 6 mm from the raw edge. Leave open the section AB.

Cut the seam allowances as shown in figure. Turn the coaster right side out through the section AB. Help yourself with a little stick or a knitting needle. Push the ears out first.

Push out all the edge of the coaster and stop it in the right position with a basting. Fold inwards the seam allowance AB and sew the opening by hand.
Topstitch the rabbit coaster near the edge. Use an upper and a bottom thread spool with the same fabric colors. Hide the excess threads inside the bunny, remove the basting and iron it (you can also iron an folded ear).

PLACEMAT

Trace on the wrong side of a fabric the pieces indicated like center and back placemat. On the wrong side of the other fabric the body piece. Cut out all the pieces with a 1/4" (6 mm) seam allowance, as shown by the dotted line in the pattern.

Cut a carboard with the shape of the inner curve of the placemat (red line in the pattern).

Overlap the carboard shape on the wrong side of the body. With an iron fold the edge interested over the paper, as shown in the photo.
Overlap the body on the center placemat along the red curve, both pieces are right side up. Pin and baste them together. Topstitch close the folded margin with a thread of the same color of the fabric.

Overlap the two sides of the placemat, right sides together. Pin them and sew all round the perimeter at 1/4" (6 mm) from the raw edge. Leave open the section AB.

Cut the seam allowance as shown in the figures. Turn the placemat right side out helping you with a little stick or a knitting needle. Baste the placemat all round. Push inside the seam allowances of the section AB and hand sew the opening.

Topstitch the rabbit placemat near the edge. Use an upper and a bottom thread spool with the same fabric colors. Hide the excess threads inside the rabbit body, remove the basting and iron it.

Done!

Plant Pots of Twine

Once upon a time an old plant pot in which lived an avocado seed.
The pot was unwatchable and once the plant was born I decided to restore it. Now it has pride of place on my window sill.

I thought that cover it with string would be a nice idea and in line with my home decor.

C'era una volta un vecchio vaso di terracotta in cui viveva un seme di avocado. Il vaso era molto rovinato e una volta nata la piantina ho deciso di metterlo a nuovo per poterlo mostrare bellamente sul davanzale della mia finestra.

Ho pensato che ricoprirlo con lo spago sarebbe stata un'idea carina e in linea con il mio arredamento.

To do this restyling we need an old plant pot, twine ecru and cream (classic kitchen twine), scissors and vinilic glue.

Cover your working table with cardboard or newspaper sheets and let's go!

The pot must be clean and dry, is better without a plant inside... :P

Quello di cui abbiamo bisogno per realizzare questo restyling è appunto un vaso di terracotta, dello spago écru e panna (il classico spago da cucina), un paio di forbici e della colla (io ho usato Pattex per legno express).

Ricopriamo il piano di lavoro con del cartone o della carta di giornale e cominciamo!

Il vaso deve essere pulito e asciutto, senza una pianta all'interno sarebbe l'ideale... :P

Start distributing the glue to the entire perimeter of the pot base, for about one inch.

Spread glue evenly and begin to wrap the pot with the ecru twine starting from the bottom. Each tour must touch the previous and adhere well to the pot.

Hold the string between your fingers and slowly rotate the pot.

Continue in this way until under the edge of the pot. Glue the start and the end of the twine and trim the surpluses.

Iniziamo distribuendo la colla per tutto il perimetro alla base del vaso, per circa due cm di altezza.

Spalmiamo in modo omogeneo la colla e cominciamo ad avvolgere il vaso con lo spago dal basso. Ogni giro deve toccare il precedente ed aderire bene al vaso.

Tenete lo spago fra le dita e ruotate man mano il vaso.

Proseguiamo in questo modo fin sotto il bordo del vaso. Incolliamo il capo iniziale e finale dello spago e tagliamo le eccedenze.

It's time to the upper part of the pot.

Spread the glue to 0.5 inches around the edge including the last round of brown twine. Superimpose on it a passage of cream twine and continue upward as before. Each tour must touch the previous one, but pay attention to the step: don't pull twine too much.

Continue with glue and few rounds of twine to the apex of the edge.

É la volta della parte alta del vaso.

Distribuiamo la colla sul primo cm attorno al bordo, comprendendo l'ultimo giro di cordino marrone. Sovrapponiamo a quest'ultimo un passaggio di cordino panna e proseguiamo verso l'alto come fatto in precedenza. Ogni giro deve toccare il precedente. Nel coprire il gradino non tendere eccessivamente lo spago.

Proseguiamo con la colla e qualche giro di spago fino all'apice del bordo.

Pay special attention to cover the top of the edge. Continue to paste twine around the perimeter pot, close to the previous twine round.

Hold twine soft or will form spaces between one round and the next. At the inner perimeter of your pot, cut the string and ensure the end with glue. Done! ^_^

Con molta attenzione ricopriamo anche il bordino superiore del nostro vaso. Incolliamo il cordino lungo il perimetro vicino al precedente giro di spago. Teniamo lo spago morbido o si formeranno degli spazi fra un passaggio e il successivo.

In corrispondenza del perimetro interno del nostro vaso, tagliamo lo spago e assicuriamo il finale con della colla. Finito! ^_^

Allow to dry at least 24 hours before using the pot.

During the operations of gardening cover the pot with cling film so as not to dirty the twine.

This is just an example of how restyling an old pot using twine. You could alternate twine ecru and cream for the entire height of the pot or color it once dry.

Lasciamo asciugare almeno 24 ore prima di usare il vaso. Durante le operazioni di giardinaggio ricoprite il vaso con della pellicola trasparente così da non sporcare lo spago.

Questo è solo un esempio di come ristrutturare un vecchio vaso con il cordino. Si potrebbe alternare lo spago écru e panna per tutta l'altezza del vaso o colorarlo una volta asciutto.

Questo è un tutorial molto semplice, illustrato e spiegato passo passo come piace fare a me!
